Steve Jobs And The Lesson of Leaving A Legacy

The world of technology is in great shock today because of the death of Apple’s co-founder and the modern-day “Thomas Edison”, Steve Jobs. He will be remembered for his inventions and innovations like the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and in general, the Apple Inc.

When I heard the news of his death, this is the question that runs in my mind: What will be the legacy I’m going to leave when the time has come?

Come on, let’s face it! We only have one life to live. Okay, I’m going to change the context: There will be a time when you need to leave your campus (Because you are graduating or maybe you’re transferring to another campus), leaving your workplace or moving out to your neighborhood. When those times come, how people will going to remember you? Do you want to be remembered because you were the bully of your school? Because you were doing illegal stuffs at your workplace? Or because siga ka sa lugar niyo?

If you want to be remembered to those places the way Steve Jobs was being remembered today, I’m going to share this Scripture to all of you:

Be very careful, then, how you live–not as unwise but as wise,

– Ephesians 5:15

Always live this life as if this will be your last day. What do I mean? The Bible is clear — live as wise, not unwise. Let’s make this simple, live your life with God — as simple as that. Live this life pleasing to Him. If you’re having a hard time, ask God for grace to live for Him. If you want to be remembered to the place you are going to leave, start now. Live a holy life, a life that is pleasing to God.

A Message From Ms. Shamcey Supsup

“I will not change my religion to marry the one I love. Anyone who loves me should also love my God.”

– Ms. Universe 2011 3rd. Runner-up Shamcey Supsup

I guess, this statement of hers totally shook our world today. And this serves as a wake-up call for all of us.

A lot of people today, almost forget this principle. They preferred to choose the looks, the riches, and the achievements more than God. Putting God first is the most important thing of all. If both of you love God, this will completely change your life. It is not all about the looks, the riches, and the achievements, it’s all about God. Nothing more, nothing less.

Another reason why Ms. Supsup shook our world was she emphasized the importance of having an intimate relationship with God. This is not all about religion, folks. Actually, religion is not the way for us to be saved. You can do all the religious activities you want to do, but still forgetting God, your efforts is just a waste of energy and time. Time to break the walls of religiosity, and this is the time to have an intimate relationship with God.

Why Ms. Shamcey Supsup stood out? Here’s the answer:

“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; BUT A WOMAN WHO FEARS THE LORD IS TO BE PRAISED.

– Proverbs 31:29-30

It’s all about the relationship with God. God will give us all we need because He is the source of everything.

Here’s to wrap this up: For all the girls, you do not need to undergo extensive beauty treatment just for you to stand out. As long as you have Jesus Christ in your life, and boldly share His love through the Gospel, and love the people around you. And for the guys, we need to be gentle, have Jesus Christ in our life, and boldly share the Gospel. And for all of us, anchor our faith in Him, live a holy life, and tell the world of His awesome love.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

– Proverbs 3:5-6

We're Not There Yet

In this season, I always see people getting crazy over that “2012” thing, more specifically, about the END OF THE WORLD. And also, I always see a lot of “trolls” (Problem?) spreading the date of Judgement day. They said that it will be on May 21, 2011, and the “end” is on December 12, 2011. And they were claiming that it’s from the Bible. And the result, some people panic because of the “end of the world” thing.

Before you panic, let us go back to the Word. What the Bible REALLY says?

It’s time to be straight forward, Here’s what the Bible says:

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

– Matthew 24:36

It is Jesus who said that, and it is clear that NOBODY KNOWS. There’s so many calculations that made, even the so-called “Bible code” will never answer that question because only God knows.

And here’s another one:

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

– Matthew 24:14

When the end will come? It will come when the Word of God will have preached to the whole world. And as we see in this current situation, there are so many nations in this world that never heard the Word of God, and they even don’t know who Jesus really is. You can find them in restricted countries.

And for those who still getting crazy about 2012, according to OMG Facts:

  • The planets are not scheduled to align in 2012. In fact, there will be no major planetary alignments in the next few decades. Even if there were, planetary alignment would have a negligible effect on Earth.
  • There are no planets or asteroids that are set to crash into Earth. Astronomers are watching out for that sort of thing, and they haven’t seen any.
  • The Mayan calendar will end in 2012. Rather than signifying the end of the world, what instead will happen is that the calendar will reset.

So, stop believing on those “end of the world” thing because only God knows it. WE’RE NO THERE YET!

Bin Laden's Death: Is It Really "Mission Accomplished"?

Few hours ago, the news about the death of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden really shook the world. As we see on news, the nation that was celebrating the most is the United States. According to New York Times, bin Laden was killed EXACTLY eight years after former US president George W. Bush delivered its “Mission Accomplished” speech. Most of the people see this as a major victory on the ongoing “War on Terror” – the speculated World War III. But this is the BIG QUESTION: Is it really “mission accomplished”?

Remember the Great Commission Jesus gave to all of us: Spread the Gospel to all nations. It includes the most secluded and the most dreaded nations. As we were seeing in the news, instead of spreading the Gospel, all we see is the spreading of bullets, shells, exploding bodies, etc.

The only way to end the “War on Terror” is only the power of God. If we let the Gospel to be known by them, this world will turn upside-down. Don’t be shaken to share the Gospel to everyone. There’s no such thing as Muslims, Hindu. Catholics, Buddhists, and Atheists in the eyes of God. All of them must be shared the Word that will give them a new life: A life that will glorify God.

And what’s my verdict? It’s “Mission failed”. Why? If someone will share the Gospel to bin Laden, the whole world will turn upside-down. And all of us are in a mission. Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. When the Gospel has been proclaimed to all nations, it will be a “Mission Accomplished”.

You should not gloat over your brother in the day of his misfortune, nor rejoice over the people of Judah  in the day of their destruction, nor boast so much in the day of their trouble.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

"Holy Week" Syndrome

As we can see, today is the start of Holy week. People were encouraging to review their lives in the past year and also to make themselves “clean”. And as we can observe, there are lots of do’s and don’ts within this season. Here are some:

  • Must eat no meat
  • Must not go outside most especially on Good Friday
  • No “party-party” on Good Friday
  • Must not take a bath until Black Saturday

I also observed that a lot of people is getting more religious and they were doing some stuffs called “panata” for the forgiveness of their past sins. And here are some of them:

  • Pasyon “marathon”
  • Men that hitting themselves
  • In other places, men were literally carrying their cross and get crucified

And here’s the thing I always observe, in this season only that people remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. Tradition also said that we must not go outside on Good Friday because Christ is dead and no one will save. HUWAW!

But I want you to be enlightened. First, Jesus died once, and never be dead again. Jesus is alive and He is with us. And second, Christ’s death and resurrection is the event that we must celebrate. Why? Because the power of sin that blocks us to God was finally broken and by his blood, we are all washed-out from our sins. The enemy has been defeated through the death and resurrection of Christ and this is the greatest victory that we’ve achieved.

I’d like to encourage you, not just every Holy week only that we get right to God. At anytime, we can be get right to God through repentance. Everyday, we should remember what Christ did on the cross two thousand years ago for our salvation.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

– Romans 5:8
