What Is LOVE?

Frankly speaking, LOVE is the most misused and abused word. Why? Just look in our society today, thanks to the mass media, it gave a very, very shallow definition of love: From music, TV, movies, social networking sites, etc. But the despising fact that we need to face is, others defined love as sex.

As a result, a lot of people, especially the youth like me, getting misled by the false definition of love. And they end up heartbroken, bitter, used, and mistreated.

The question that we need to face is this: WHAT IS THE TRUE MEANING OF LOVE?

Where can we find the answer? We can find it to the book where you can find all the truth that you need: The Bible. It was written there…

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

– 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

It was clearly written, love is not the one that we heard in music, it’s not the one that we saw in the movies and TV, it’s not about the pick-up lines, and it will never be about sex.

And for you to feel the TRUE LOVE, go back on how God demonstrated His ultimate love:

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

– Romans 5:8

That’s how God loved you. Why settle to the shallow definition of love? GOD LOVES YOU, LIVE WITH IT!!

God is love.

– 1 John 4:16

Unexplainable Love

Few weeks ago, I texted my friends with this question: “If you will be given an opportunity to travel back in time, and you appeared to the time when Jesus was being crucified, what will you feel and what you will going to say?” One of my friends said, “Deep joy, shame…[My heart] filled with gladness…and great honor for Jesus because He saved me.” Another one said, “I will bow down to Him and I will [give] thanks and praise Him for dying for me.” But this answer struck me for this past days, “..nung time na pinapanood ko nga lang [yung] crucifixion ni Jesus  sa Passion of the Christ umiiyak na ko eh what more pa kung babalik ako sa past and knowing na para sayo yung ginawa niya.”

Why the last statement struck me? Because if you will just watch the movie “The Passion of the Christ”, you will see the re-enactment of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus, which is close to what’s really happened to Him two thousand years ago.

What I’m trying to point here?

Very simple. Once you feel like temptation is crawling over you, when you feel abandoned, when you feel like you’re a failure, when you sinned against God, when you are bitter, when you are broken, just imagine the suffering of Jesus: He was beaten; got lashed with a whip that has shrapnel-like stuffs at the end, tearing His back; the crown of thorns that has 2 or 7 inches of thick thorns, puncturing His brain, making Him disillusioned; forced to carry a very heavy cross that was made not from smooth wood, but with the rough one; walked almost a kilometer carrying that cross; when they came to Golgotha (Calvary), the huge nails were driven to His wrists and feet; struggled for three hours just to catch a breath; after that, He died.

While He was enduring that kind of inhumane suffering, He was thinking of you and me. He was thinking during that time, “I love you, my son/daughter.” “It hurts me a lot when you are in pain, I’m going to shoulder it here.” “I don’t want you to suffer like this in Hell, I’m going to receive all of these for you.” He suffered like that BECAUSE HE LOVES US!

What God has revealed to me is, we do not need to travel back in time just to see how He suffered because of His love for us, just live with the new life that God has given to us through the cross two thousand years ago. Just live on what Christ did. IT IS DONE!

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead…Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

– 2 Timothy 2:8: Hebrews 12:3

The Cure For Bitterness

I have an advanced valentine article for all of you, and I know that you can relate with this.

We’ve seen a lot of people who was so bitter in love. Are you wondering why some people, or maybe you’ve experienced it also to be bitter. Even me, I’ve experienced it too.

The problem with us humans, we love to rush everything, including love. Because of the shallow message that some movies and music portray for this generation. Because of that, insecurity crawls up in our hearts. We think, “If I will have a relationship today, I will be complete.” So a lot of youth of today are entering relationship even though they are not yet ready for commitment and not mature enough. At the end of the day, they end up broken and BITTER, distorting completely their perspective about love.

And what’s the solution to this problem of this generation? First, it was written in the Bible:

There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth: Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up, until the time is ripe—and you’re ready.

– Ecclesiastes 3:1, Song of Solomon 2:7; 3:5; 8:4 (The Message)

The basic point that we need to understand is this: IS THIS ALREADY THE SEASON IN YOUR LIFE FOR RELATIONSHIP? What are the top priorities in your current season in life? Is it studies? Relationship with your family? Or importantly, your relationship with God? Have a self-assessment to your priorities. If having a relationship is not in your top priorities, don’t pursue it and FOCUS ON YOUR PRIORITIES.

And the best medicine for bitterness? BE SECURED IN THE LOVE OF JESUS CHRIST. Imagine, He gave up His life for you and me, and He died on the cross because He loves you, me, you who are reading this article, you who are currently in the state of bitterness, you who are tired and wearied because of finding a relationship but you’re not yet ready. In other words, HE LOVES US! GOD LOVES YOU, DEAL WITH IT!!

How To Measure Our Love For God?

I see a lot of photos in my News Feed saying “If you love Jesus, like and share this…” . I’m not writing this article to trip you off because of that, but my question is: By sharing those photos, does it really measure our love for God?

To answer that, I’d like to share this verse to you:

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

–  John 8:31

To answer that question, I shared that verse because what I’m trying to point out is: Do we do what Jesus commanded in us like loving our enemies, not worrying about tomorrow, etc? And also, to balance this, when we accepted Christ in our lives, His grace will pour out in us; that grace will enable us to do His commands, and not by our own might nor power (Zechariah 4:6).

We loving God is just the effect of His unfailing love for us, by sending His son, Jesus, to save us from the world’s greatest problem–SIN, by dying on the cross. Besides, we didn’t deserve that love because of our sin. Actually, we deserve punishment, in other words, HELL.

As long as you already have Jesus Christ in your life, that’s enough. It is not necessary to share those photos. What we can do now to express our love for God is by reading His Word, “not for God to love us more, but for us to love God more.” (Robert Gonzales, IGNITE 2011).

My 2012 Prayer and Fasting Experience

This year’s prayer and fasting is the most amazing ever yet. I saw how God moved in our every lives and to the breakthroughs that we’ve received. Ptr. Ferdie del Valle also said last night, “May breakthrough ka man o wala, kay Jesus pa lang, panalo ka na!”That exhortation totally boosted our faith to believe for more.

On the first few days of the fast, I felt that God has planted my desire in my heart. I’ve shared it to my leader and he said that I must pray for it and wait for the true calling that God has for me. And yesterday, still uncertain about my down payment for our upcoming Leaders’ camp, when I blessed my friend with what was left in my money, a lot of people approached and blessed me. When I open my hand, I saw a lot of money. At that moment, I really broke down and I bowed down to my knees, worshiping God for His goodness. When I counted it when I went home, all the money that the people gave me has a total amount of P 1000.

I remember what Jojo Agot said,  “We do not fast to twist the arm of God so He will bless us. We are already blessed. We fast because we want Jesus.” It’s not about what kind of fast we are doing or how long we fast, it’s all about God who wants to bless us in spite and despite of our shortcomings. And because of Christ’s death on the cross, we will life this life VICTORIOUS! I am now looking forward for what God has in store for me this 2012 and I will stand in faith for HE IS NOT IN HURRY AND NOT TOO LATE. IT’S ALL IN HIS RIGHT TIMING.
