The Art of Letting Go
The hardest thing that a person can do is to let go. Especially when it had done an impact in your life.
Let us go back to the encounter of the rich man and Jesus. The rich man had done all the commandments of God since boy (Mark 10:17-20). But everything’s changed when Jesus said this to the rich man:
Jesus looked at him and loved him. “ONE THING you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
– Mark 10:21
But look on the response of the rich man:
At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
– Mark 10:22
People in the house, what are those ONE THING that we need to let go? Maybe you need to let go of bitterness and anger towards that person, a wrong relationship, a romantic feelings towards that person, a hidden sin, a wrong attitudes or mindsets, etc.
Yes people, it is very, very hard to let go those ONE THING in your life. But one thing is certain, God has promised this if we let go that ONE THING:
“I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life.”
– Mark 10:29-30
I’d like to share to you my testimony regarding that ONE THING that I let go: Last year, I broke-up with my ex-girlfriend because God revealed to me that I am in a wrong relationship. It took me a month just to respond to His command to let go. Three weeks after I let that relationship go, I received what I am praying for in the past 4 years: Freedom to go to church without interference.
Yes folks, we really need to let go that ONE THING in our life. Time after time, God has to reveal ONE THING to let go for us to go to the next level of our relationship with Him. But one thing is certain, if we let go that ONE THING, God will never fail to give His promise to us.
If you think that God wants you to let go that ONE THING, ask Him what is it. And if you are having a hard time of letting it go, ask God for His grace to let it go. For that ONE THING that we let go is equivalent to a hundred-fold of blessings.
