“Does This Offend You?”

Have you ever feel so offended? We got offended by many means: When people said something bad about us; sometimes, it is the action that makes us offended, etc. The first move that we do when we are offended is we stay back from it.

Did you know that it is the same thing that we do when it comes to God? Just look at yourself when it comes in reading your Bible. Why people are not reading their Bible? I remember what my professor said about that. He said, “It is better be ignorant with these things than knowing it but keep on haunting you.” The number one reason that we don’t want to read God’s Word is: IT OFFENDS US.

Why does the Word of God offends us? Here’s the answer:

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

– Hebrews 4:12

As what was described in the Scripture, the Word of God is like a double-edged sword that penetrates to our inner being. In other words, God’s Word exposes what is inside of us (Attitudes, sin, bad habits, addictions). And when it penetrates inside of us, it hurts right. And that’s the reason why we always got offended by God’s Word.

And now that you know why you got offended by the Bible, what is your response? Will you turn your back from God, or you will let God fix your life and to get right again. Just like what Ptr. Robert Hern always saying, ” I would rather offend you with the Word of God than not knowing the truth.”

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

– John 8:31-32
