Christ's Death: The Event That We Must Celebrate
I’m sure that the title of this article disturbed you. But yes, that’s the truth. We must celebrate this event. But why?
First, the victory achieved on the cross was victory over SIN. All the people in this world, even the nicest and the most religious person, are sinners. If there’s a sin, there’s a price. And what’s that price? It’s DEATH. But God showed mercy to all of us and God has forgiven all our sins through the cross.
Second, victory over CURSES. Yes folks, there’s such thing as curses. What are those curses? Some of it are wrong attitudes that was inherited in your family, or sickness. And through the cross, God broke it.
And lastly, victory over DEATH. Like what I’ve said, the penalty for our sin is death. And what’s that death? It’s not a physical death, it’s HELL. Life is like a car, there’s a driver and we are the passenger. It’s really scary when you don’t know who’s the driver because you’re not sure where you are going. On the other hand, when you know who is the driver, you are safe because you know where you are going. The same in our life, if the devil was the driver of our life, we are in danger of getting lost. But if our driver was God, we are sure where we are going.
That’s the essence of Christ’s death. SIN, CURSES, and DEATH – all of these were crucified with Jesus on the cross and by His death, these three were died also with Him. In short: Sin, curses, and death – God took it away from all of us.
Aren’t you glad? NO MORE SUFFERING! NO MORE CRYING! NO MORE DEATH! NO MORE SACRIFICES FROM US! NO MORE “MUKHANG BIYERNES SANTO”! NOW WE HAVE THE REASON TO CELEBRATE BECAUSE ON WHAT JESUS CHRIST DID ON THE CROSS.
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
– Colossians 2:13-15
